When Lindsey and Matt told me they were getting married on Bowen Island, I was over the moon! Alyssa’s grandparent’s own a small home on the island, and we’ve often come over for a day or weekend and enjoyed the quiet island life. I’ve often looked over across the water at the Bowen Island Lodge, and thought it would be the perfect venue for a wedding! Lindsey and Matt, you picked the perfect venue for your wedding! It was an absolute joy to experience the start of both a marriage and New Year’s Eve, all on the same day. Congratulations on such a gorgeous day!
Every details of Lindsey and Matt’s wedding was beautiful and so well planned. As it was New Year’s Eve, they had a black and white champagne theme, and asked all guests to wear black and white. It looked SO classy, and to top it all off, they got married at the Bowen Island Lodge on Bowen Island, a 20 minute ferry ride from the Lower Mainland in BC. The weather was just perfect, a balmy 2°C degrees, but no freezing rain or crazy wind, meaning they were able to get married on the dock! Yes, it was absolutely breathtaking with the water around them and the mountains behind them… you could not have a more British Columbian island wedding than they did! Their wedding party, family and friends all lined up on the side and stood as they shared vows with each other.
The ceremony went off without a hitch, and we all headed up the hill afterwards to the lodge for some hot chocolate and cookies, followed by family photos! Once they were all taken, we headed back down to the dock as the wedding party, taking advantage of the natural beauty around us. The wedding party were all rockstars, walking on the wet beach to get to our spot on the water, with the mountains in the background. Once we got that shot, they were free to go, and I spent a few more minutes with the bride and groom before we drove up the road to get a few more portraits as the sun set.
The main lodge was decorated to the nines, with groups of tables named by different Vancouver islands, new year’s hats ready to be worn come the evening, and beautiful, elegant decorations all around the room. Jim of Prime Time Entertainment did a wonderful job of keeping the party going, and their MC and wedding party were stellar! Tracy of Taste to Savour outdid herself with a delicious meal, and Lindsey and Matt’s lemon marble cake was handmade with love by Nicole of Sinfully The Best.
I have to say, you couldn’t wipe away the huge smiles from Lindsey, Matt, their boys (ok, maybe the younger one was getting a bit tired as the evening came closer), but I loved seeing everyone come together to celebrate the bride and groom, many travelling from afar, including a huge contingent from Manitoba, where Lindsey grew up.
All in all, this was an awesome way to take in the new year, and I’m so honoured to have been just a small part of an awesome wedding, and the start of something wonderful for Lindsey, Matt and their family! Congratulations..here’s to a very memorable anniversary every year!
