Diamond Alumni Centre Wedding | Angel + Tim

February 24, 2019

Ever since moving to just blocks away from SFU, I’ve wanted to photograph a wedding at the beautiful and rustic Diamond Alumni Centre on Burnaby Mountain on the Simon Fraser University campus. Late last year, Angel and Tim contacted me about photographing their wedding. We hit it off right away from that first meeting! I loved hearing their love story, and why getting married was important to them! I photographed their engagement session a few weeks later, and this year, they got married!

It had snowed the week prior, so we were unsure of what the weather was going to look like, but we were going to make the best of it! And sure enough, it turned out to be a beautiful blue sky day, with a slight wind, and the temperature just above 0.

First Look Photos before the wedding ceremony

Angel and Tim had chosen to see each other before the ceremony, and I think that was a great decision for them! I had told Tim to be at the spot (outside of Starbucks) a few minutes before Angel was dropped off, and to face away. She then came up to him, tapped him on the shoulder, and he turned around with the biggest grin on his face. It was wonderful to see them two just as happy as can be (albeit with some nerves), realizing that this was the day they had dreamt about and planned for a long time! They spent the next few minutes inside Starbucks, where Tim gifted Angel a journal he had started 6 years prior, even before they had met… they read a devotional together, and finished with the Bible. It was wonderful for them to spend a few minutes alone before the ceremony…just beautiful!

Wedding Ceremony at the Diamond Alumni Centre

Angel and Tim had both studied at Simon Fraser University, and attend a church service that happens on campus every Sunday, so the natural choice for them as SFU alumni was to get married at the gorgeous Diamond Alumni Centre, a building that overlooks the Barnet Marine park area with views of the North Shore mountains. It was beautiful! They got married in the Fraser Room downstairs, which is beautifully lit with floor to ceiling widows on the North side, allowing for more than 100 guests to enjoy the special day with you. (Pro-tip…f you’re SFU alumni, apparently there’s a great deal to be had here!).

Wedding Photos in Burnaby

After their beautiful ceremony, where quite a few happy teas were shed by all, we took family portraits on the back porch, and then headed out to explore some of the SFU campus as the wedding party. Let me tell you…they were rockstars! This was a winter wedding, so Angel had gifted each of her bridesmaids a beautiful grey shawl that was perfect for wedding party portraits! I had scouted out the campus a few days earlier, and knew I wanted to get some iconic photos of the wedding party…and we did!

Rustic Wedding Reception Venue in Burnaby

If you’re looking for a cozy, warm, rustic venue to host your reception, look no further than the DAC! The guests began filling the room for cocktail hour, and the party and celebration continued into the evening! Everything about their reception screamed Angel and Tim, from the simplicity and beauty of the decor, to their cake and cupcakes, and the even gave their guests monogrammed M&M’s as favours..brilliant!

Angel and Tim, it was an absolute joy for me to photograph this most special day for you and your family…I wish you nothing but the best in your future together! Here’s to Mr. and Mrs. Wenger!!
