It was a beautiful Saturday morning, around 25 degrees and partly sunny, when I pulled up to The Westfield Country Club in Surrey for Emily and Leo’s wedding. I was looking forward to seeing them again, especially after our video chat a few days prior where we finished up a few details for their wedding timeline.
After getting my gear out and coordinating with my 2nd shooter for the day, Vivian, we headed over to where the girls were getting ready, in the bridal room downstairs in the clubhouse. Everyone was so excited for the day and we began grabbing photos of the details, like Emily’s beautiful wedding dress from David’s Bridal, her rose gold heels, and her stunning necklace, amongst other details. I always love finding a safe place to hang the wedding dress that ties it in to the venue, and I found this beautiful tree with a spot that overlooked the ceremony location!
I asked Vivian to photograph the girls getting ready while I drove 15 minutes over to where Leo was getting ready at his family home. Leo was mostly ready to go, so I got a few portraits of him suiting up, hanging out with his groomsmen, as well as his dad ironing some clothes and helping him tie his tie. The sun was really starting to come out, so I asked the guys if we could take a few portraits outside. I loved their super fun socks…well done, Leo!
No Look First Look
Heading back to the golf course, it was time for Emily and Leo to do their “no-look-first-look”, yes, a 2nd time for me! I scouted a spot close to where Emily was getting ready, and mostly out of the view of any guests that might be arriving early. Emily and Leo chose to do this as they wanted to pray together before getting married, but did not want to see each other before Emily walked down the aisle. It was so sweet, and we let them have a minute or two together.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Eaglequest Golf
The guests filled the seats, the music began playing, and the wedding party was ready! One by one, they walked down the ramp towards the white gazebo at the front and it was such a beautiful sight! I loved seeing the excitement in everyone’s eyes, but especially in Leo’s, as Emily walked down the aisle with her father. Leo’s father, who is the pastor of their church, officiated the wedding beautifully, and Emily and Leo shared the most beautiful vows with one another! Once they were pronounced husband and wife and shared their first kiss, both sets of parents came up to pray over their marriage. Such a beautiful moment to witness!
Wedding Portraits on the Golf Course
As this is a live golf course and there were only a few safe areas where we can take photos, I coordinated with the events coordinator and safety patrol to ensure we had no stray balls flying our way! We quickly set up a group shot on the bridge and then moved to a safe area by the entrance of the greens for some group portraits and family photos. Once those were finished, Vivian began taking photos of the reception space while I whisked the couple away on their very own golf cart for a few photos further into the course, stopping under a magical willow tree for some portraits of just the two of them. They really were a beautiful princess and prince that day!
Wedding Reception at Eaglequest Golf
The reception hall was all decked out in rose gold details, from the favours to the bows, and the guests were all smiles as they filled the room. Emily and Leo, along with their wedding party, were greeted with huge cheers and applause as they entered the room. Then, we went straight into speeches. Wow, they were so sweet! Both sets of parents shared a few stories before dinner service began and you could see the close relationship they all had with one another, as there were a few sweet tears shed that evening. Emily and Leo chose to have the dinner line be in the centre of the room and it was perfect for how they had the reception laid out, as afterwards the tables could be moved to open up the dance floor. Both the maid of honour and best man shared a few kind words (no embarrassing stories, I believe), and then it was time for the first dance. Emily and Leo looked magical under the beautiful chandelier and they both asked their respective parents to join them on the floor after. Leo even surprised his sister by asking her to dance with him for a few moments… she was caught off guard, and everyone teared up as she walked on. You could tell they had a close bond growing up!
Dancing At The Reception
DJ Glory from Painted Frog Entertainment was amazing… he had the crowd dancing way into the night, and just a few minutes in everyone was on their feet enjoying themselves and the music. I snuck Emily and Leo away for a few minutes as it was golden hour outside and we had talked about getting a few portraits in before the night was over. We quickly found a safe spot on the bridge by the greens and it was absolutely beautiful to see them all relaxed, enjoying the day, and getting to spend a quiet moment together. Soon after, they changed into their going away outfits, said goodbye to family and friends, and were off to the hotel, ready to fly out the next morning!
This day could not have gone better, really! It’s such an honour to witness two people becoming one and seeing the family and friends all come around them to support such a big moment in their lives!
